Graduation Party Planning: Planning When You Just Want to Sleep

Graduating from college (again) is an awesome feeling. For some reason I thought my second bachelor’s would be far less fraught with danger and mental illness than my first, but it definitely was on par with the my first undergraduate experience. While I plan my graduation party, still in the midst of school, I find myself wanting to sleep more than anything else.

Of course, the fun part is that I have more academic aspirations ahead of me once I finish with this degree. But that’s another blog. Back to where we left off in our story…

I’ve been planning this party on and off for entirely too long for me to have kept track. I made up some games and their accompanying sheets, ordered some announcements off of Vistaprint, made up some invites to the actual party, ordered a cake, and then stopped all planning.

The only problem with this was… what were my guests going to eat besides cake? After a while, once I got up from my nap, I started thinking about what to feed my guests. Then I started overthinking.

4,000 ideas later, I finally came across what would ultimately become the food for the party. I decided to do a hot dog and hamburger bar! A summer time favorite (and hot dogs are my not-so-secret obsession), I thought nothing could be easier and more filling than good old fashion hamburgers and hot dogs.

Sometimes planning comes together nicely and neatly and once you have an idea, it never wavers. But this isn’t always the case. Reimagining events is part of the fun of having them. Even if you just feel like sleeping the entire time.
